Chase 5/24 status checker
Enter the months you opened your personal cards. We'll count how many fall inside the last 24 months, tell you if you're under 5/24, and show the exact date you'll be eligible for Chase cards again.
How the Chase 5/24 rule works
5/24 is the single most important rule in credit-card rewards. If you've opened 5 or more personal credit cards from any bank in the past 24 months, Chase will automatically decline you for nearly all of its cards — including the Sapphire, Freedom, and most co-brand cards. It doesn't matter how good your credit is.
Because of this, experienced churners get the Chase cards they want first, while their count is low, then move on to other issuers. Each card you open stops counting exactly 24 months after you opened it, so your number naturally falls over time.
What counts (and what doesn't)
- Counts: personal credit cards from any bank, even closed ones.
- Usually doesn't count: business cards from most issuers, authorized-user cards.
- Never counts: loans, most charge cards, and store-only cards that don't report as revolving.
Once you know your number, the next question is which bonuses you actually qualify for. Run the full eligibility checker to apply 5/24 plus Amex once-per-lifetime, credit, and spend rules to every current offer — or browse the best cards to get while you're under 5/24.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Chase 5/24 rule?
Chase will not approve you for most of its credit cards if you've opened 5 or more personal credit cards from any bank in the last 24 months. It's an unofficial but well-documented rule that applies to nearly all Chase cards.
Which cards count toward 5/24?
Personal credit cards from any issuer count, including ones you opened and then closed. Most business cards (from Chase, Amex, Citi, and others) do NOT count toward 5/24, and authorized-user cards usually can be excluded. Loans and most charge cards do not count.
How do I get under 5/24?
You simply wait. A card stops counting once it has been 24 months since you opened it. This tool shows the exact month each of your cards falls off and when your count drops below 5.
Does being under 5/24 guarantee approval?
No. 5/24 is a gate you must pass for most Chase cards, but Chase also considers income, credit history, and recent applications. Being under 5/24 makes you eligible to be considered, not guaranteed approved.
